Conferenza Biochar

Biochar is a plant-based charcoal obtained from the pyrolysis of various types of plant/wood biomass. The use of Biochar as a soil amendment would be a valid example of circular economy, bringing various environmental benefits such as CO2 storage.

The Free University of Bolzano and the Laimburg Experimental Center are studying its potential in the field of agriculture, where it could be used instead of chemical fertilizers. A research project that is part of the WOOD-UP project funded by the European Regional Development Fund, under the operational program "Investments for Growth and Employment" ERDF 2014-2020 of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
