"Protecting yourself from sore throat, cough, headache, and other cold symptoms is possible with herbal medicine."
Winter brings with it the cold season, often the cause of seasonal ailments.
The cold season brings with it the classic cold symptoms: sore throat, followed by cough, perception of temperature fluctuations, headache, all typical symptoms of this time of year. Due to their frequency, it is important to take care of your body and protect your respiratory tract, even better if done preventively.

Prevent seasonal ailments with plant-based ingredients
The ideal is to act preventively, providing your metabolism with direct and natural support through plant-based ingredients, preventing the onset of these seasonal discomforts and ensuring that one can recover as quickly as possible. The organs most at risk during this period are indeed the respiratory tract and the immune system.
The respiratory system
The main purpose of our respiratory system is to extract the oxygen we need to live and expel the carbon dioxide (CO2) that is produced during metabolic processes. The respiratory system is a complex made up of various functional parts such as the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles, and finally, the alveolar ducts contained in the lungs. It can be roughly divided, based on functionality, into two parts:
- the upper airways;
- the lower airways.
The upper airways include the nose, the pharynx and the larynx. Their main function is to filter, humidify, and warm the air we breathe in. Also, sensing odors through the olfactory bulbs present in the nose is a fundamental task that takes place in this anatomical region. Furthermore, the upper airways are the place where the voice originates, an important tool for communication.
The lower airways include the trachea and the bronchi, which branch into bronchioles, ending in alveolar ducts. The alveoli are microscopic spherical structures and the place where the exchange of oxygen actually occurs when we inhale and from where CO2 and some volatile metabolites are expelled from the body when we exhale. A well-oxygenated body is more vital, works better, and remains healthy.
The defense mechanisms of the respiratory system
The respiratory system is equipped with very important defense mechanisms to maintain the proper functioning and well-being of the body and mind. In fact, although the main task of the respiratory system is the exchange of oxygen versus CO2, it is also equipped to fight and expel everything that is "lost" by chance inside it. Thanks to its function, it is exposed to the risk of encountering bacteria and viruses and other exogenous substances, such as pollen, and consequently is equipped with defense systems that help it combat their presence. Microscopic cellular protrusions called cilia, characterized by their typical whip-like movement, cover the inside of the airways from the larynx to the bronchioles. Moreover, specialized cells in this tract expel glycoproteins along with mineral salts, thus creating a viscous layer that covers a large part of it. Through the movement of the cilia in this viscous layer, all those particles that are lost in the airways and are considered irritating and therefore potentially harmful are expelled.
Finally, given its particular position exposed to the outside world, the immune system is particularly active in the respiratory tract. In this site, there are cells of both non-specific and specific immune responses. These cells are recruited during the invasion by exogenous substances from the epithelial cells, the upper layer of cells in the respiratory tract, when they release various so-called pro-inflammatory factors and antimicrobial peptides. Effective communication between these two systems is essential for a rapid and efficient defense against potential pathogens.
The vocal cords
A distinctive trait of human beings is the ability to express themselves articulately. Our voice is important not only for communicating our thoughts but also for conveying emotions. Just think of all the speeches that have inspired people and changed the course of history, and we immediately realize the impact that voice can have on our lives and on the people around us. The right words, spoken with the appropriate tone of voice, can inspire, motivate, or demoralize those who listen to us. The voice we emit is produced by the oscillation of the air we exhale. This oscillation comes from the movement of the vocal cords and its resonance within the pharynx, mouth, and nasal cavities. Thus, the sound that characterizes each of our voices is born. For many people, the vocal apparatus is a vital organ for performing their work at its best. Just think of managers and professors who frequently give presentations, singers and actors who use their voice as their main working tool, but also merchants who communicate daily with their customers.
