What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that the website you visited sends to your device, where they are stored, to be sent back to the same site on your next visit. Third-party cookies, on the other hand, are set by a website other than the one you, as a user, are visiting. It is specified, for your protection, that a cookie cannot retrieve any other data from the user's hard drive, nor transmit viruses or acquire email addresses.
Types of cookies and function
Cookies are divided into two types: the so-called "technical" cookies and "profiling" cookies.
The first ones are used to carry out quick executions of computer authentications while maintaining the user's identification within the session, as well as to allow for secure browsing. For these purposes, this type of cookie is not stored persistently on the user's PC, but rather, it disappears when the browser is closed. Based on the Guidelines of the Data Protection Authority of June 10, 2021, such cookies can be used without the consent of the data subject.
"The second ones, on the other hand, are used to track the user's navigation on the web and profile their tastes, habits, and choices, in order to propose targeted offers. Based on the aforementioned provision and in accordance with EU Regulation 679/2016, the installation of such cookies can only occur if the user expresses consent after being informed about it, even if expressed in a simplified manner."
