Biochar Conference

Conferenza Biochar

Biochar is a type of charcoal obtained by pyrolysing different kinds of plant and wood biomass. Using biochar as a soil conditioner would be a good example of the circular economy, bringing various environmental benefits, such as the storage of CO2.

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and the Laimburg Research Centre are studying its potential in agriculture, where it could be used instead of chemical fertilisers. The research is part of the project WOOD-UP funded by the European Regional Development Fund, as part of the “Investments for Growth and Jobs” ERDF 2014–2020 Operational Programme of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.

An online conference on this topic was held on 23 November 2020.
